Penetrations of cables and pipe service installations

Within the laboratory for Thermal technique and fire protection, testing of penetrations of cables, isolated and non-isolated plastic and metal pipes, modular systems and other elements that are categorized as vertical wall penetrations. Testing is performed in a standard vertical test furnace measuring 3000 mm x 3000 mm. The testing laboratory provides testing services in accordance with SRPS EN 1366-3 standard while the conditions in the furnace are prescribed by the SRPS EN 1363-1 standard for which we are also accredited.

Cable penetrations can be tested individually (each cable separately) or by forming a standard test configuration prescribed by the test standard. Test configurations (S - small, M – medium, L - large) are selected based on required dimensions of penetration and types of cables in penetration. If a large test configuration is selected (L), then the largest dimensions of penetration can be achieved in the field installation with the most diverse cables.

There are also standard test configurations for pipe penetrations. In addition to individual cable and pipe tests, it is possible to test combined pipe and cable penetrations using standard test configurations. The main task of the fire resistant penetrations is to maintain its properties in terms of integrity (E) and thermal insulation properties (I) during the testing period. Thermocouples are placed on the penetrations to monitor the temperatures on the non-exposed side of the sample in order to check the thermal insulation properties of the product while the integrity is monitored visually - observational method.

In addition to testing fire resistant penetrations, we provide services of classification for tested penetrations in accordance with the SRPS EN 13501-2 standard.
